Developer of Iconic Cape Breton Golf Courses Acquires Florida Golf Club

INVERNESS, NS — The developer of the iconic Cabot Links and Cabot Cliffs golf courses in Inverness has found a new project in the United States.

Cabot, the developer and operator of master-planned golf resort communities, announced this week the acquisition and reimagining of World Woods Golf Club in Brooksville, Florida. The purchase price has not been made public.

The course, soon to be known as Cabot Citrus Farms, spans 1,200 acres of sandy soil and rolling hills covered in towering sand pines, saw palmettos and moss-covered ancient oaks.

The facility is less than 50 minutes from Tampa and 80 minutes from Orlando. Although close to urban amenities, the property is located in the West Central region of Florida, aptly known as the Nature Coast.

In a press release, Cabot said the course is “the perfect complement to Cabot’s existing collection of properties, known for its breathtaking natural scenery, world-class golf and exceptional service.”

Cabot’s growing portfolio includes the award-winning Cabot Cape Breton, the highly anticipated Cabot St. Lucia resort community slated to open later this year, and Cabot Revelstoke under construction in British Columbia.

“I couldn’t have wished for a better location for our first development in the United States,” Ben Cowan-Dewar, CEO and co-founder of Cabot, said in the release.

“The property is a nature lover’s paradise that rivals the most spectacular sites I have seen around the world. We are excited to build on the incredible legacy established at World Woods and chart a new course for Cabot Citrus Farms as a vibrant golf and residential community that showcases the Sunshine State’s bountiful natural offerings.

World Woods was established by Yukihisa Inoue in 1993 and quickly won acclaim for its two championship golf courses, Pine Barrens and Rolling Oaks, and impressive practice facilities. Pine Barrens was previously a mainstay on the list of the World’s Top 100 Courses, while Rolling Oaks remains one of the top courses in the state.

For now, the development will operate as World Woods and renovations are expected to begin in spring 2022.

Cabot Citrus Farms is set to open in 2023 with world-class amenities including two revitalized 18-hole courses, a par-3 course, a new clubhouse, and practice facilities with a putting course and driving range.

The search for golf course architects is ongoing to enhance the overall playing experience and bring out the best in this spectacular site.
