Ibom Icon Hotel & Golf Resort Launches Icon Management Training Program

ICON Hotels and Resorts Nigeria, a subsidiary of ICON Hotel Group Africa, has launched an intensive one-year human capital development program at IBOM ICON Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, aimed at converting semi-skilled people into qualified personnel able to seize opportunities in hospitality and operate at management levels anywhere in the world.

The program known as the ICON Management Training Program, which is in line with ICON Hospitality Group’s vision “to be a leading provider of hospitality, leisure, leisure and hospitality development and management services tourism in Africa, and among the best in the world”, was inaugurated on Monday, June 7, 2021 with seven pioneer trainees in the Mbo meeting room of the IBOM ICON Hotel and Golf Resort, Uyo, by the Chairman of the Board of Directors from the hotel Mr. Udeme Ufot MFR.

Speaking at the inauguration on behalf of the Board of Directors, Hon. Orman Esin, commended the hotel management, ICON Hotels and Resorts Nigeria for initiating the program to nurture indigenous talent and prepare them to seize opportunities across the globe. He instructed the interns to take the opportunity seriously and do their best in learning and be diligent in their work in order to graduate to become leaders in the hospitality industry.

The management training program, with the aim of ensuring a continuous supply of talented future leaders for sustainable growth in the hospitality industry, had its trainees drawn from the hotel’s host communities, employees of ICON and new graduates with leadership qualities, good communication skills, a caring attitude and a track record of hard work.

Speaking at the orientation held for the interns on the same day, HR Manager Mr. Akan Bassey explains that the purpose of the program is to develop the interns to become business management executives. competent at an accelerated pace. He said that successful trainees at the end of the program will receive merit commendation certificates and enjoy remarkable career growth leading to leadership positions in frontline operations in the hospitality industries at the global scale. He added that the most outstanding among the trainees will have the opportunity to participate in exchange programs within ICON hotels around the world.

Giving a detailed overview of the one-year program, the hotel’s training manager, Mr. Awak George, explains that trainees will be exposed to all aspects of work and functions in all operational and support departments of the hotel for a period of nine years. months and three-month specialized training on a specific operational area of ​​their choice, as well as managerial skills development and strategy workshops that will help them hone their leadership skills.

The trainees were full of joy and gratitude to the management of IBOM ICON Hotel & Golf Resort for the great opportunity given to them to participate in such a transformative program and pledged their commitment to ensure that the goal of the program training is achieved.
