Featured facility Friday: Bellmere Winds Golf Resort

We welcome a very family course with
Relaxed atmosphere back to the GO family

Nestled on the outskirts of Keene, Ontario on the north shore of Rice Lake is a hidden gem of golf, Bellmere Winds Golf. The course offers stunning lake views at nearly every turn, large undulating greens and dramatic elevation changes, all surrounded by a family-friendly resort.

A unique destination combining beautiful golf scenery, six-month cottage living opportunities, boating, swimming, campfires and more, Bellmere recently joined the Golf Ontario family of facilities. Today they’re kicking off our Friday Facilities article, highlighting some of our amazing member classes.

With 400 cabins, 375 of which are member-owned and the remaining 25 are available for stay-and-play packages, Bellmere offers a unique experience in Ontario. Built in three stages after the initial construction of the course, the first chalet phase is located on the water, phase two is just above the golf course up the hill and phase three is further east. inland. As a bonus, ownership of the chalet includes 6 (yes, six!) golf memberships for family members. Cottage purchase options start from just $99,900 with payment plans available.

Designed by Jack Lally, the course offers magnificent lake views on almost every hole at varying elevations. The front nine is sometimes narrow with fescue lined fairways, while the back nine is more open, perhaps more forgiving. Most will find the front a bigger but accessible challenge. The back nine begins perhaps with their signature hole, a fabulous par-5 elevated 10th tee drive overlooking the water, followed by the 11th and 12th played along the resort (Phase One).

Bellmere has recently undergone some renovations, including the bunkers. Out of play for a few years due to COVID, they have been rejuvenated and the fescue has been removed in places allowing for more errant shots to be recovered and quickening the pace of play. Also the greens are in good condition , rolled a few days a week, thanks to Superintendent Eric Van Gerwen.

Although also in his first year at Bellmere, Van Gerwen has over ten years’ experience as a Greenskeeper. He has worked on various notable courses such as Peterborough Golf and Country Club, Conestoga Golf & Country Club and Beach Hall Golf Club. Through this experience working on golf courses, he learned the requirements needed to maintain a golf course in top condition and the keys to exceeding golfers’ expectations.

Additional course features include detailed GPS in all carts, four different tee decks for different skill levels, a unique newly built hitting bay to warm up to, a large putting green, member events and an outdoor grill offering burgers and pizza with great views. from the lake and the scenic 10th tee. Future plans for the course include further improvements to irrigation and cart paths.
