CATSKILL – A rapid fire tore through several buildings at the Catskill Golf Resort on Saturday night and destroyed numerous golf carts and other equipment.
At approximately 9:53 p.m., Greene County 911 dispatched the Catskill Fire Company to 27 Brooks Lane, after a caller reported seeing flames and hearing explosions.
When the first firefighters arrived on the scene, they reported that there were approximately 20 golf carts on fire and the fire was spreading to a building.
Firefighters immediately requested mutual aid from neighboring Greene and Columbia county fire companies.
The fire quickly spread to several buildings on the property. Flames could be seen from Highway 23 in the Brooks Lane area.
All available manpower has been asked to respond. Crews began pouring water on the fire. The Hudson ladder truck was deployed to attack the fire from above.
Fire hoses lined up Brooks Lane. The street was closed to traffic by firefighters.
Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control quickly. Authorities declared the fire extinguished around 10:34 p.m.
Crews then began to comb through the scene of the fire, making sure there were no areas where the fire could reignite. Central Hudson Gas and Electric was asked to turn off the power.
The Greene County Fire Investigation Team responded to determine the cause of the fire. The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
The companies that helped Catskill were Hudson, Athens, West Athens and Kiskatom.
Saugerties Fire Company sent standby devices to Catskill Fire Station. Leeds Fire Company stood next to its own fire station.
Catskill Ambulance and the Greene County Fire Coordinator’s Office also assisted at the scene.
