Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa course set to host Africa Zone IV Golf Championship

3rd Africa Zone IV Golf Championship:

  • wednesday 13e July 2022 (Official practice round and flag raising ceremony)
  • thursday 14e – Saturday 16e July 2022 (Competition days *Stroke play)

Uganda will host the third edition of the 2022 Africa Zone IV Golf Championship at the immaculate facilities of the Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa in Kigo.

The championship will be contested by six countries, including Kenya, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Rwanda, Burundi and host country Uganda.

Director of Golf at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa, Theo Van Rooyen expressed his joy and willingness to host this event.

“We are delighted that the 2022 Africa Zone IV Golf Championship is taking place at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort and Spa. We are more than ready to host the tournament. The course is in good condition and we wish the golfers the best,” revealed Van Rooyen.

Van Rooyen made these remarks during the official launch of this championship which was held on Tuesday July 12, 2022 at the Lake Victoria Serena Resort Hotel.

He was accompanied by the Uganda Golf Union executive committee officials, Joseph Bagabo and John Kato, as well as the Ugandan national head coach, Flavia Namakula.

Bagabo said he was ready for the Uganda Golf Union to welcome the different countries.

“Uganda is more than ready to host a successful tournament. From hotel facilities, security to the course itself, everything is in place,” Bagabo revealed.

Wednesday 13e In July 2022, the official training round will be organized by all participating teams.

This will be followed by the official flag raising ceremony later.

Thursday 14e July 2022, the first round of the 54-hole competition will be played.

The next two rounds will take place the following day and will officially culminate on Saturday 16e July 2022.

The championship returns after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Uganda has won the previous two editions; 2018 in Nyali – Mombasa and 2019 in Burundi, as they will aim for the third title on home soil.

Head Coach Namakula takes care of the Ugandan team consisting of Joseph Cwinyaai, Godfrey Nsubuga, Dennis Asaba and Michael Alunga.

Cwinyaai is the captain of the Uganda team.

The Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa tops the list of sponsors.

Others include; Uganda Golf Union, Pepsi, R&A, Case Medical Care, CASA Solada and Pinnacle Security.
