Members of Telford Hotel, Spa and Golf raise money for charity

June 15, 2022

Ian Pessall, Mike Wass, Chris Miller and Ben Miller will all raise funds for prostate cancer in June.

The gentlemen will take part in The Big Golf Race, which is expected to have wider representation this year as golf clubs become more comfortable following the COVID-19 pandemic.

For this summer, the charity is urging the public to join the cause and help save fathers, grandfathers, brothers, husbands, sons and friends from the heartbreaking disease that kills a man every 45 minutes in UK.

The foursome will tackle The Big Golf Race on June 17, 2022 at the Telford Hotel, Spa & Golf Resort – which hosted the second event of the 2022 EuroPro Tour season.

Each person will play the entire golf course four times, which should reflect 26 miles of walking in a single day.

The group targeted this cause and charity as men are all too likely to face these issues as they age.

Ian Pessall said: “I am taking part in The Big Golf Race as my father was diagnosed with prostate cancer following a test day organized by Prostate Cancer UK in Telford. He had no symptoms but decided to get tested anyway.

“He then underwent a year of radiotherapy before finally getting the all clear and, if not for that day of testing, we might never have found out. He is now fully healthy and plays more golf than I do!

Nicola Tallett, Director of Fundraising and Supporter Engagement at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “Golf has been so influential in spreading the message about prostate cancer, but sadly the disease still exists. at all golf clubs.

“Prostate cancer kills a man every 45 minutes – about the time it takes to play three holes of golf – so we must continue to deliver this serious message.

“We are thrilled with the number of players and clubs that have taken part in the Big Golf Race in 2020, with our supporters getting involved in droves and raising vital funds to support vital research and support men affected by prostate cancer. and their families.. We hope many more golfers will participate this year and in the years to come.
