Police patrols have been stepped up in the area to reassure residents who may be concerned about the incident. The police are also carrying out house-to-house investigations.

Officers are appealing for the whereabouts of anyone who may have been in the area at the time and would particularly like to locate three teenagers who were riding bikes and playing music on the path outside the Village/Heron’s Reach Golf Course, formerly known as DeVere, passing the Heron’s Way access to the golf course around 7:10-7:15 p.m.

The police think they may have seen or heard something that could help our investigation and are calling on them to come forward. Officers would also like to hear from anyone who was in that area between 7:00 p.m. and 7:20 p.m. Friday night who might have information that could help.

Det Ch Insp Jane Webb, of Lancashire Police, said: ‘We understand this may worry local residents, and we have increased police patrols in the area to provide reassurance. We will also carry out door-to-door and CCTV surveys. If you have any concerns, please come speak to one of our agents”

Anyone with information is asked to contact 101, quoting log number 1114 of 14e October.
